Elementary and Middle School

Academic programs are guided by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) emphasizing the acquisition of an academic knowledge base with concomitant intellectual skills in preparation for eventual university studies. Students acquire the ability to use and evaluate knowledge with critical and independent thinking and to make connections between academic and religious perspectives. IQA students develop competence and confidence through structured lessons and experience at all grade levels.

Non traditional subjects are also of high quality selection. Subjects include; Islamic Studies, Physical Education, Alim program, Qur’an Memorization, Tafseer, Qur’an recitation and Arabic. All courses are designed to meet the purpose of IQA’s mission of developing the next generation of American Muslim Scholars.

 
 

English

Proficiency in written and spoken English is acquired through our language arts courses as required at every grade level. Students will become excellent communicators in the English language. Components include reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and spoken language. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) provides the basic framework of the curriculum while religious content is integrated by the teacher to provide a holistic perspective.

 

Mathematics

Mathematics is taught at every grade level to promote logical thinking and mathematical ability. General math is taught up until grade six with an emphasis on basic math skills.

Students proceed to advanced math courses beginning with Pre-Algebra in grade 7. The focus of Pre-Algebra is building the foundation necessary for success in the study of algebra. Students will become familiar with the following: the properties of mathematics; the language of algebra; solving one-step and two step equations; adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing rational numbers and integers; solving inequalities; graphing equations and inequalities; proportion; percent; statistics and graphs; probability; applying algebra to geometry; measurement; introduction to trigonometry; and the study of polynomials.

Science

Science is taught at every grade level to provide an understanding of the physical world and to encourage scientific inquiry and systematic problem solving. General science includes astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology, physics, and the other sciences. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) provides the basic framework for the science curriculum while religious content is integrated by the teacher to provide a holistic perspective.

 

Social Studies

Social studies is taught at every grade level to encourage awareness and reflection on the human condition and to promote multicultural awareness and interpersonal understanding. The social studies include economics, geography, government/civics, history, sociology, and other social and behavioral sciences. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) provides the basic framework for the social studies for each grade except in grades 7 and 8 where IQA students take courses in Muslim Civilization and Civics. Throughout the curriculum religious content is integrated by the teacher to provide a holistic perspective.

 

Physical Education

Physical education is considered a healthy component of a balanced lifestyle. In addition to learning and practicing a variety of healthy recreational activities, physical education provides an opportune time for health and social counseling, as well as sportsmanship and team-building skills. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) provides the basic framework for the physical education curriculum while content that reinforces Islamic etiquette and behavior is integrated by the teacher to provide a holistic perspective.
